Azura Quilalea Private Island

Mozambique - Quirimbas Archipelago

If you’re looking for that toes-in-the-sand, castaway feeling then this is the place for you. Azura Quilalea is a private island in the Quirimbas Archipelago complete with hammocks, a thatched beachside bar and beach dining beneath the shade of baobab trees.

The area, in the north of Mozambique, is excellent for snorkelers and divers (there’s a house reef you can access straight from the main beach). And whether you’re under the water, taking a nature walk around the island or heading off to Turtle Beach with a picnic, you never feel as though you’re walking the tourist trail.

There are just nine villas, divided into ones that get a sunrise and ones that get a sunset. They’re all exclusive and very, very private with coral stone walls, wooden beams and filled with local craftsmanship. For the ultimate in seclusion go for a Kusi villa (they have private plunge pools).
