How to tee off island-style

Golf in Mauritius

If the beaches of Mauritius are not enough of a pull to relax and unwind, then perhaps a round or two of golf is more your bag (did you see what we did there?).Golf is the reason that many people travel to Mauritius and there are several world class championship golf courses to test your skills on.

Legend Golf Course & Links Golf Course

The 18-hole par 72 Legend Golf Course was opened 1994 and designed by Hugh Baiochhi. The course hosted the Mauritius Golf Open from 1992 to 2008. The course features lagoons and lakes at each hole and the Signature hole at the 17th has views across the lagoon. What makes this course unique is the Java Deer that live and roam freely at Legend. We had sundowners at the Deer Hunter Restaurant where the sunsets are spectacular.

The Links has undulating fairways and greens that give way to spectacular views of the Indian Ocean. The course was opened in 2010 to exacting PGA specifications. There is a golf academy to ensure you go home with a lower handicap than you started with.

The Constance Belle Mare Plage and the Constance Prince Maurice are the perfect properties to stay at if you want to enjoy The Links and The Legends courses. The rates include golf fees, a certain number of which can be pre-booked prior to arrival. We loved our time at these two properties, their combination of great food, wines and location make the perfect beach stay.

Ile Aux Cerfs

Situated on the Ile Aux Cerfs island and accessible by boat, the course was designed by Bernhard Langer and has a total of nine lakes in all - three of the holes require tee shots across sea inlets to the fairways. Each of the 18 holes has a sea view. Compared to other golf courses in the area we found the fairways very narrow and a challenging play. Take plenty of balls!

Shangri La's Le Touessrok is the perfect place to stay if you want to play Ile Aux Cerfs. We particularly like the rooms on the Frangipani Island. The rate at Shangri La's Le Touessrok includes Golf fees.

Four Seasons at Anahita

Designed by Ernie Els, Four Seasons Golf Club Mauritius at Anahita is spectacular. The fairways are wide and spacious. Staying at the Four Seasons gives you unlimited golf during your stay. Some of the fairways are dotted with private villas, which a purist golfer could find distracting. The facilities at the Club House were world class, with pros on hand to fine tune your skills.

The Four Seasons Resort at Anahita is the perfect place to stay to enjoy this course. Great pool area, very serene but with good service. Manicured beaches, particularly the quiet beach. We felt the Four Seasons had the perfect sense of place and only wished we could have stayed longer.
