Whales

Hermanus, South Africa

Overview

Visit Hermanus and you can tick a marine safari, shark cage diving and whale watching off your bucket list, too.

It’s where southern right whales go to nurse their young from July to November. You don’t even need to get on a boat – snuggle beneath a blanket at Birkenhead House and the whales will come to you.

The best way to get a sense of the magnitude? Fly out over Walker Bay to see just how many there actually are.
