Zimbabwe

It is back on our map!

Overview

Welcoming people, stunning scenery, an incredible array of wildlife: Zimbabwe is back on the map as a tourist destination.

Visitors are returning to Zimbabwe in numbers not seen for many years. It can be tricky to get around, and you might need to use scheduled charter flights. But believe us, it’s worth the time and money it takes to spot the Big Five, visit incredible archaeological sites and marvel at the sheer force and power of Victoria Falls, one of the natural wonders of the world.

We think Hwange and Mana Pools are the country’s finest safari destinations. Hwange is the largest park in Zimbabwe with over 100 species of mammals and almost 400 kinds of birds. It’s also especially revered for its huge herds of elephants. Mana Pools is scenically spectacular and deserves its listing as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Combine one or both of these parks with a stay at the iconic Falls or for something completely different, head south to Singita's Pamushana Lodge for a few indulgent days in beautiful surroundings.

Please note: The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) issues travel advice on destinations, which includes information on passports, visas, health, safety and security. We urge you to visit their website before deciding to travel.

How

We recommend flying into Johannesburg and routing to Harare, Victoria Falls or Bulawayo. Zimbabwe can easily be combined with Botswana, Zambia and South Africa due to a good network of flights between the southern African countries.

When

Zimbabwe is a good all year round destination with some of the best time for game viewing in May to October which is the dry season. Absent rain means animals flock to water holes allowing for great sightings. You can visit Vic Falls any time of the year. Birding is excellent most of the year however optimum time is October to March when the migratory birds arrive.
