Lower Zambezi

Zambia

Overview

Lower Zambezi Valley sits on the north-western bank of the river. The camps here are real, authentic and decidedly water-focused (think oxbows, meandering channels and lots of fishing). At some, you have the option of arriving by boat, and we think catching that first glimpse of your camp from the river is an exhilarating experience.

Mana Pools National Park, its Zimbabwean counterpart, lies on the opposite river bank. Together, they constitute one of Africa’s best wildlife destinations. There aren’t any giraffes, but you can expect plenty of elephants, buffalos, lions and leopards.

Places to stay

  • Anabezi

    Lower Zambezi

Anabezi dispels the myth that you have to stay in a tent to appreciate Zambia.  It’s a relatively new lodge, built...

How

Fly from Johannesburg to Lusaka and on by light aircraft to Lower Zambezi. You can also fly between Lower Zambezi and South Luangwa for a twin centre safari.

When

The best time to visit is from June to September when it's warm, dry and animals come to the river for water. September and October are great months for fishing.
