7 reasons why South Africa is great to visit in Springtime

Long summer nights, BBQ’s whenever the weather allows and our yearly obsession with tennis during Wimbledon. There’s plenty to love about summer in the UK.

But, when the children start a new year at school, the evenings start to draw in and the clocks go back, thoughts start to turn to staying warm. Why not prolong the warm rosy glow a little longer?

Jetting off to beautiful South Africa in our Autumn gives you the opportunity to experience everything a southern hemisphere spring has to offer - and more.

1)      It’s a comfortable temperature.

September to November is a perfect time to visit South Africa. Start your adventure in the Mother City of Cape Town, where you may find locals in jackets and hats, but you’ll be basking in the delights of 20 degree temperatures – and be wondering how this can be just as pleasant as the summer you were pining for back home. Yes, there will be the occasional rainy or cooler day, but with so much to do and experience we are sure you will not be disappointed.

2)      You’ll find special offers AND less crowds

The crowds found during the South African summer peaks of December to March haven’t yet arrived, and the end of the UK school holidays means the Cape area feels like paradise found. You’ll be rewarded in Cape Town and the surrounding Winelands areas with free nights and special rates. Even world class restaurants share special offers to entice in the lower numbers of visitors.

3)      You can experience a luxury lifestyle – for less

You will be amazed at how far your money goes in the fine dining restaurants and eateries with a strong exchange rate. So whilst the waistline may feel the pinch - the wallet won’t. And in the evening, as the temperature begins to cool there is nothing cosier than sitting round a roaring fireplace, drinking exceptional local wines to finish off the day.

4)      There’s plenty to do in spring in Cape Town

Whether travelling as a couple, friends or with family, having a private vehicle and guide really does take your holiday to a different level. We are able to organise personalised day trips in vehicles specially modified for families. Find them packed with towels, tuck boxes and surf boards - fun with a capital ‘F’.

For those looking for a more grown -up experience – how about a private vehicle with gourmet snacks or a vehicle with an espresso machine and a malt whiskey bar? Fancy joining an experienced mountain guide to hike the rocky trails of Lions Head or Table Mountain, including brunch with a view or a rewarding sunset cocktail to finish? Our guides live and breathe the Cape Town area and can really take you off the beaten track and show you something special and unique.

5)      It’s the right time to see migrating whales on the garden route

Exploring further afield along the Garden Route the fun continues. See the whales in Walker Bay before they begin their migration, enjoy a round of golf at a world class course or fill your days with everything from fat-biking to sandboarding and everything in between.

6)      You get to cosy up on Safari

Although not every trip has to include one, for many visitors no visit to South Africa is complete with a safari. You may feel the early morning chills more on a game drive, but this can be the case at any time of year, so we always recommend layers for safari no matter the time of year. With many top end camps offering hot water bottles and blankets on vehicles, we know you’ll only be talking about how amazed you were to be spotting lions before your morning coffee fix has even kicked in.

7)      It’s a great time for excellent game viewing

Before the southern hemisphere summer begins, winter and spring can offer some of the best game viewing possible before the bush thickens back up and animals become harder to spot. Whether it is the malarial free reserves of the Eastern Cape, or the big-cat territories of the Sabi Sands and Kruger National Park, if you are going to get a free night or long stay special at peak game viewing time then September is truly as good as it gets.

So what are you waiting for? The latter part of the year doesn’t have to look grey and unappealing after all. Forget inflation figures, energy price caps and winter blues, swap the BBQ for the braai and make your money go further in a South African spring instead.
