Weddings in Cape Town

Few backdrops can rival Table Mountain for sheer spectacle. But when planning your wedding in an overseas city, it’s essential to have the support of someone who’s based there and really knows their stuff. Madre Vermaak, the Wedding and Celebrations Manager at One&Only Cape Town is one such gem. We asked her to share some of her trade secrets:

1) One&Only has so many beautiful corners, where do you think is the best place for a wedding ceremony?

I would definitely say our most charming space to tie the knot is on the Vista Deck. The couple meets on a wooden sundeck surrounded by the tranquility of the waterfront canal and the most amazing view of Table Mountain in the background. It’s really the best spot in Cape Town for the couple and their guests to capture the perfect moment.

2) Before the wedding, there’s the proposal and you also guide and assist grooms-in-the-making – tell us what you’d suggest?

We have various options for the ideal venue to pop the question – each experience must be tailor-made and intimate and reflect the interests and preferences of the couple. The most romantic spot for me would be the SPA Garden Pavilion, a “glass box” situated on our Island that is exclusive to the couple. We would do a very romantic set up with rose petals, candles, soft background music…. Or we can arrange a private sunset cruise for two with Champagne and gourmet snacks…..Or a jaunt around the peninsula in a beautiful vehicle with a gourmet picnic tucked in the boot… We are well versed in creating unforgettable, bespoke experiences.

3) The One&Only has a great reputation for fine dining – where do you suggest for a wedding feast?

For privacy, I’d suggest a secluded table set up in its own Zen waterside pavilion. For a small group of family and friends, the chef’s table at Reuben’s Wine Loft is so special.

 4) And finally, any ‘bridezilla’ moments?

I couldn’t possibly comment! There are so many occasions where you have to think on the spot and jump in to prevent a situation or where you will blow them away completely with the unexpected – every wedding has it’s unique story behind the scenes. There was the occasion where the bride completely forgot to buy a garter then in a panic asked me to find one at 22h00 at night….  So I have a cupboard full of ‘bridal things’ from ribbon to lace, cake toppers, gift bags, sewing kits, boutonniere pins, etc. I created a garter with ribbon, lace and diamanté clips and the bride was happy.
